Eduard
LePont was born 18 years before WWII. He grew up in Brest as
a curious and active child in a small and quiet town. From a young age
he worked with his father as a shoe repairman. When mad cow disease hit
Europe for the first time, leather became scarce and the family entered
an economical crisis. To release the financial burden he emigrated to
Canada, where he soon met and married a girl named Marie
Louise Poulart.
At the age of 18 having already 1 child and another one on the way he joined the army to fight against the Germans. He spent 4 years on the front and got injured twice. The second time during Operation Totalize, which took place 6 weeks after the invasion of Normandy. Operation Totalize was part of Operation Cobra, which the allied forces undertook to secure the north of France. It was the aim of Operation Totalize to capture the road from Caen to Falaise. It was here, during this accomplished mission, that Eduard got shot in the head.
