Vincent Batista is probably the least fortunate man on the planet. He was about to take over his father’s leather factory, when it suddenly collapsed, burying Vincent Batista Sr. under the rubble. Having already lost his mother in a crowd some 17 years earlier he packed his few possessions and figured he’d become a hairdresser. Arriving in San Fransisco in 1966 he learnt that long hair was the new fashion. After 2 weeks he quit his new profession and became hippie. At Haight Street he was sold bad LSD which left him emotionally and intellectually unstable for the rest of his life. During the frequent depressions that haunted him thereafter he tried to commit suicide 17 times. When he finally decided to stop his futile attempts he moved into a new house, full of conviction to rebuild his life. On the first night a spark from a bad electronic socket detonated the gas from a leaking pipe, killing Vincent in the blast.
