Sylvester
Morie’s past is a mystery, and nobody can explain how he
could get so far into Mozambique politics.
It is known he was born in Chibuto, Mozambique, but this was his hometown only as a baby. There are records of the Spanish immigration authorities that state his parents fled their hometown to find refuge in Europe. There is no mention of children, although it is witnessed they left Mozambique with both their son and daughter. Legend goes Sylvester travelled the world and contacted several revolutionary forces in Cuba, China, Russia and France. During this period he decided to go back one day and grew more and more determined to play an important role in the country that had spat him out. During the campaign for independence in the early 1960s he joined the National Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo) and became secretary to its leader. When internal self-government was granted in 1974 he was appointed assistant of the prime minister. He then served as foreign minister, and has been involved in the country’s politics since then. |
