Hugo de Mooy was born in a small town near Rotterdam, Holland. After having successfully finished the gymnasium he moved to Amsterdam to study medicine. 3 years in his career he enlisted in the armed forces to go fight in Indonesia. During his short training period his talents in the medical field were noticed and he was shipped to the war as a field-medic, where he got first hand experience at heavy combat and heavy casualty. At returning to Holland he was awarded the ‘Eereteken der Militaire Willemsorde’. He remained associated with the army and climbed up to the rank of General Major. At the age of 82 he invented the Radarraam-De Mooy, a revolutionary stretcher for the transport of wounded and injured people.
