Aquiles
Pinto Flores was born the son of Allile Pinto and María
Irene Sofía Flores (commonly known as Mis Flores), was born in
the highlands of Cuauhtemoc, Mexico in 1895. His father, in the tradition
of the family, owned a textile business. His own mother had taught him
the art of weaving the traditional Mayan way, and from his father he learned
about trading, for he had been in close contact with the coast piracy
in mid XIXth century.
By contrast, Aquiles’ mother, was a member of one of the most prestigious families in Ciudad de Mexico, and had escaped the family lineage to find more adventurous ways. The couple named their younger son Aquiles for the Greek myth was the favourite story of Mis when she was a child. At the tender age of 13, after the sudden earthquake who took the life of both his parents and of his older twin brothers Quiche and Catun, Aquiles fled his hometown and followed the troops of Pancho Villa. He joined the revolution to become an active guerilla for the course of ten long years, during which he was unofficially promoted to the rank of Coronel. While in hiding, he was an eyewitness to the killing of Villa. Realising the danger he was in, he stole a horse and rode it to death, due north. It is said he reached the border of the United States, and beyond it, where he started a successful career as a stickup- and gunman. It was abruptly ended when he challenged a young and upcoming boisterous lad carrying the name Billy the Kid. |
